Ormesby St Michael Norfolk Stained Glass

This c1911 window is dedicated to the memory of W Edgar. It is one of three in the church designed by Henry Holiday (1839 – 1927). Holiday’s work was very much influenced by the work of Sir Edward Burne Jones (whose work can be seen in Antingham). Although he was originally employed as a glass designer at Powell’s (who are widely accredited with establishing the pre-Raphaelite style in stained glass) he left in 1891 when he set up his own workshop.
Here Holiday has designed the figure of Charity.

Here we see the Madonna and Child flanked by angels proclaiming how important it is to love one another. Holiday has employed beautiful vibrant colours to dramatic effect.

Here we see the figure of Faith who declares : “We walk by faith not by sight”
